Tsovagyugh
T/O 200 m vertical
This site is about 1 hour NorthEast from Yerevan. During
the summer, a very consistent sea breeze from Lake Sevan
provides dynamic ridge soaring. A grassy launch is approached
via a 20 walk. A popular site for new pilots as well as
experienced pilots as lots of airtime can be had without
lots of work. Thermal flying is possible but I personally
have not climbed more than 300 meters above launch. Watch
out for over developing clouds capable of cloud suck. Many
landings in the large LZ require the use of big ears or
spiral dives to get down.
Sevan
T/O 100 m vertical
A small flying site that can be interesting when nearby
Tsovagyugh is not working due to cross winds. The site is
grass covered and provides nice views of Lake Sevan.
Martuni
T/O 500 m
A 2 hour drive from Yerevan will bring you to this large
cone shaped mountain, close to the Southern shore of Lake
Sevan. A small pond can be seen in the crater of this extinct
volcano as well a small shrine. With the right conditions,
a sea breeze from Lake Sevan can provide dynamic soaring
with some thermals from time to time. Finding the right
roads from the main highway can be a little tricky.
